Alder Creek Children’s Forest invites K-12 teachers from Douglas County to apply for our 2005 Summer Area Teacher’s Institute (SATI), to be offered at Canyonville Middle School 8 AM–5 PM Mon 7/25 through Thu 7/28 in conjunction with Douglas County/OSU Extension.  SATI participants earn a $250 stipend upon completion, and a further $250 upon teaching related material in school year 2005–06.*  Outdoor activities will take place on the 78-acre ACCF site west of Canyonville and the surrounding 2300-acre Alder-Jordan Creek watershed.   While preference will be given to science teachers located in south county school districts, all teachers are welcome to apply.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Forest and watershed ecology
  • Field aquatic and terrestrial inventory
  • Computer applications
  • Forests and watersheds: The community dimension
  • Available curricula
  • Building course and lesson plans

The application procedure is as follows:

  1. Download and complete the fill-in PDF application form.
  2. Prepare a cover letter summarizing your interests in participating in the 2005 SATI, and adding any details not covered in the application form.
  3. Mail the cover letter and application form to Alder Creek Children's Forest, P.O. Box 1300, Canyonville OR 97417 (see contact info) by postmark deadline of Friday June 24, 2005 (note extended deadline).
