Alder Creek Children's Forest offers
three P's to students and instructors: a place,
partnerships, and programs designed
to promote active learning about how we can work together to create
healthy, sustainable forests, watersheds, and communities. Below
is an overview; click on each P for more detailed information.
- Our Place
- Our 78 acre mixed-coniferous Children's Forest, readily accessed
from I-5 in southern Douglas County, is our home base. It's nestled
in the 2500 acre Alder Creek-Jordan Creek catchment, with opportunities
for educational activities via our partnerships
with other watershed landholders. And, if you can't visit directly,
this website offers many opportunities for online learning experiences!
- Our Partnerships
- Our partnership network of individuals and institutions
represents a wealth of technical and educational expertise, and
offers connections with other students and educators, community
members, and private and public organizations. We know that education
is complex, and can provide the people to help make yours a
success.
- Our Programs
- In addition to widely-used natural resource
curricula, we offer brief field and classroom introductions to
our educational programs, and are building a flexible program for learning about forests, watersheds, and communities called Oregon Explorers.
All
programs stress
active
learning,
and can include field, classroom, and computer lab components.
